Here is the approved catalog on the DOE site, and Journalism, course #1080, is on pages 156 and 157:
Indiana State Approved Course Titles and Descriptions
Journalism teachers met with questions about this change may address them in the following manner:
1. My course follows these standards: Indiana High School Journalism Standards
3. Those standards were created with, and approved by, the Indiana Department of Education.
4. The Indiana State Board of Education approved the course description that states, “If Journalism course work addresses the Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts, the credits accrued can be counted as part of the eight (8) required English/Language Arts credits for all diplomas.”
IHSPA would like to thank everyone who helped with this, especially Jordan Pridemore, former literacy specialist at DOE, and April Moss, Pike HS adviser and IHSPA president. Without their planning and participation, this never would’ve happened.
Any questions about this change can be directed to IHSPA Executive Director Ryan Gunterman at rgunterman@franklincollege.edu.
