Dear IHSPA Friends,

I invite you to join us at our 2019 State Journalism Convention. Our theme this year is “Challenge Accepted,” and I would like to challenge you and your students to join us as we learn new ways to take on the challenges that face student journalists and advisers. We hope that the young people who attend our convention will feel empowered to go back to their schools and practice journalism with courage, truth, integrity, and freedom.

2019 Keynote Jon Seidel, Chicago Sun-Times

I’m thrilled that we will have Jon Seidel of the Chicago Sun-Times as our keynote speaker. Twenty years ago, he served as our student board president, and now he’s returning to his roots to offer wisdom as somebody who has been there in high school, college, and the professional world. When we pair up Jon’s professional experience with featured speaker Mitch Eden’s outstanding teaching career at Kirkwood (Mo.) High School, I think our convention attendees are in for a great experience.

For field trip planning purposes, listed below are some key details.

Hope to see you all there,

Ada Clark
IHSPA Convention Chair
