The Indiana High School Press Association is proud to announce the finalists for the 2019 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year Award as well as the sports journalism and First Amendment design contests.

Indiana Journalist of the Year finalists:
Evan Gerike – Portage HS
Madelyn Knight – Southport HS
Haley Pritchett – Greenwood Community HS
Morgan Taylor – Crown Point HS
First Amendment Design Contest finalists:
Anna Lowe – Greenwood Community HS
Nasiba Naku – Pike HS
Sports Journalism Contest finalists:
Russell Peterson-Womack – Southport HS
Logan Zrebiec – Southport HS
IHSPA is also excited to recognize the state-level winners of the SPJ/JEA Essay Contest. These three students will receive a $50 award and have been entered into the national essay competition.
SPJ/JEA Essay Contest Indiana winners:
Anna Eggers – Ben Davis HS
Kyra Gegner – Paoli Jr.-Sr. HS
Hannah Heilman – Greenwood Community HS
All students will be recognized, and the 2019 award winners will be named, during the IHSPA First Amendment Symposium Thursday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the north atrium of the Indiana Statehouse. Winners of the sports and First Amendment contests receive a $100 award while second place earns a $50 prize. The 2019 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year receives a $1,000 scholarship from IHSPA and will be the state’s representative in the national competition at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Anaheim, April 25-27.
