Five finalists named for journalist of the year

The Indiana High School Press Association is proud to announce the finalists for the 2018 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year Award. While the full field of candidates was impressive and represented scholastic journalism programs from across the state, the competition’s judges felt these five students exemplified the best in Hoosier student media.

The five finalists in alphabetical order are:
Audrey Gacsy – Inklings newspaper co-editor-in-chief, Crown Point High School

Andrea John – Inklings newspaper co-editor-in-chief, Crown Point High School

Jared Rigdon – North Star newspaper editor-in-chief, Lawrence North High School

Claire Rightley – The Avon Echo newspaper editor-in-chief, Avon High School

Andrew Tapp – The Journal newspaper editor-in-chief, Southport High School

All five students will be recognized, and the 2018 award winner will be named, during the IHSPA First Amendment Symposium Wednesday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the south atrium of the Indiana Statehouse. The 2018 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year receives a $1,000 scholarship from IHSPA and will be the state’s representative in the national competition at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in San Francisco, April 12-14.
