This year’s symposium is again paired with the Pacers Sports Media Day, March 7, 2018. The symposium will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Indiana Statehouse South Atrium. In addition to presentations about First Amendment issues, the finalists and 2018 Indiana Student Journalist of the Year (click here for entry information), sports contest and First Amendment contest winners will be recognized. There is no registration fee to attend the symposium, but an email with approximate number attending sent to pgunterman@franklincollege.edu helps IHSPA plan.
Click here for additional information about an opportunity for students to attend Sports Media Day with the Indiana Pacers. There are both $20 and $55 options for students, teachers and chaperones to have access to an exclusive pre-game workshop AND panel from 2-4:30 p.m. and attend the Indiana Pacers game against the Utah Jazz at 7 p.m. that evening. Make sure to note the Feb. 7, 2018 registration deadline. Multiple students and advisers may attend per school. For additional questions about the event, contact Clayton Hamilton at (317) 917-2870 or CHamilton@Pacers.com.

Mid-Year Sports Contest
IHSPA is sponsoring a sports contest for first semester sports coverage again this year. Requirements are simple. Each student who enters must submit three entries (in any combination of sports photos, sports columns or sports stories — print, video, or a Twitter thread of a sports event) that have been published in the student newspaper, news website or Twitter account from the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year through Feb. 25, 2018. All entries should be sent as PDFs of the original page or links to pgunterman@franklincollege.edu. Deadline for the Mid-Year Sports Contest is Monday, Feb. 26, 2018. Winners will be announced at the First Amendment Symposium, March 7, 2018. Winners will have the opportunity to attend a special professional or college sports event later in the semester.
