*Updated Oct. 2 @ 11:45 a.m.* During its meeting this past Saturday, the IHSPA Executive Board agreed to waive the registration fee for the 2017 Thursday night on-site contests.
Students attending the 2017 IHSPA state convention have the opportunity to participate in one of 12 on-site competitions on Thursday evening, Oct. 19 at no cost.
Participants will be assessed on their journalistic skill AND social media presentation. Students are expected to have access to Facebook, Instagram, Storify and/or Twitter and should make sure their submissions are available for view by contest judges.
Student registration may be found here and registration deadline is Oct. 13. Schools may enter more than one student per category. If a student is unable to attend, his/her adviser may substitute a name by 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night of registration.
Students must bring their own supplies. Computer labs will be available, but contestants may use their own laptops. All entries will be submitted on the Better BNC contest site via URL or upload. Winners will be announced during the awards session on Friday.
IMPORTANT: Seven competitions involve coverage of the Thursday night speaker, Carrie Ritchie. Ritchie is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and it is vital for contestants to be on time and taking notes throughout. Some, but not all, facts and figures will be available afterward. Participants will have approximately 15 minutes to ask follow-up questions when she is finished speaking.
ALSO: Please note the formats and instructions for “Overall Social Media” and “Event Live Tweeting” competitions.
