More than 250 students, teachers, administrators, lawmakers and guests attended Indiana High School Press Association’s 11th annual First Amendment Symposium on Tuesday, March 14, in the south atrium of the Indiana Statehouse.
Students who attended received a free #BeHeard t-shirts as part of the rally for IHSPA’s student journalist protections bill, House Bill 1130.
The guest speaker for the symposium was Evans Branigan, principal at North Central High School. Branigan has been honored as an IHSPA Louis Ingelhart recipient and Journalism Education Association principal of the year.
Student officers also spoke, and the 2017 Indiana High School Journalist of the Year finalists and winners were announced.
