Sue Skalicky will be our First Amendment Symposium speaker this year. The Symposium will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Indiana Statehouse.
Sue Skalicky is in her eleventh year of teaching/advising high school journalism, currently teaching journalism and advising all publications at Legacy High School in Bismarck, North Dakota. Over the past 28 years, Sue has worked as a medical photographer, a journalist, a leadership speaker and a freelance writer. She is currently the Journalism Education Association state director for North Dakota.
Over the past couple of years, Sue worked closely with a national team to pursue student free speech legislation in North Dakota. This student free speech bill, the John Wall New Voices Act, passed the house and senate unanimously and became law August 1, 2015. These efforts have led to a national movement of New Voices Acts (www.newvoicesus.com) that includes more than 20 states. She and the North Dakota team continue to help the national effort both in Washington D.C. and state by state.
