Over the past 28 years, Sue has worked as a medical photographer, a journalist, a leadership speaker and a freelance writer. She is currently the Journalism Education Association state director for North Dakota.

Over the past couple of years, Sue worked closely with a national team to pursue student free speech legislation in North Dakota. This student free speech bill, the John Wall New Voices Act, passed the house and senate unanimously and became law August 1, 2015. These efforts have led to a national movement of New Voices Acts (www.newvoicesus.com) that includes more than 20 states. She and the North Dakota team continue to help the national effort both in Washington D.C. and state by state.
