Updates from Executive Director Diana Hadley

Hello everyone:

As a group we are in various stages of beginning a new school year, but I want to take a moment to wish everyone the best in 2013-14, share some IHSPA news and encourage you to contact me for help or resources throughout the school year.

Changes & Welcomes
Several people have changed schools, and there are new people to welcome. I’m sure I don’t have everyone; so if anyone knows of others to add to the following list, please contact me with the information so that I can update the directory.
In the meantime, good luck to the following in new adviser roles:
Jill Smith Bernard—Greenfield Central
Bill Caulton—Avon
Amanda Eid—Homestead
Jeff Gabbard—Richmond
Elizabeth Granger—Lawrence Central (adding yearbook)
Susan Hoffman—Valparaiso
Sarah Lanman—Munster
Lisa Morris—Connersville
Terry Nelson—Blackford
Kelsey Pomeroy—Greencastle
Heather Reynolds—Brownsburg
Katie Ratliff—Bloomington South
John Thanos—Chesterton
Tony Willis—Cathedral

New Forms/Fall Convention, Oct. 17-18
The forms are not due right away, but I know some schools must have field trips approved months in advance. Much more information about sessions and lodging will be sent by email and posted on the IHSPA website soon.
Keep in mind that the Oct. 17-18 date is a one or two-day option. The evening of Oct. 17 will feature a Sports Illustrated photographer as a speaker and on-site competitions.
Some schools may prefer to attend Friday, Oct. 18 only—a full day of sessions and keynote speaker Aaron Manfull, a Dow Jones Adviser of the Year.

Harvey Contests
The new online submission for the newspaper Harvey contest had positive feedback from advisers. The yearbook Harvey contest will be available for entries Aug. 20. Deadline will be Monday, Sept. 16. Like the newspaper contest, entries
will be submitted as PDF spreads online. Information about posting will be sent prior to the opening date for the contest, and schools will be billed $5 per entry at a later date.

Regional Workshops
In addition to the convention, two regional workshops are planned for the beginning of the school year.
Lawrence Central High School is hosting a workshop Saturday, August 17, for advisers in the Indianapolis area who have new schools or new adviser roles.
Turkey Run High School has invited nine other schools to a one-day yearbook workshop Friday, Sept. 13. Anyone who has not been contacted but is interested in either of those opportunities should contact me.

Although I will be attending the AEJMC conference in D.C. tomorrow through Sunday, I will still check email, voice mail and texts regularly. Please feel welcome to contact me with information, questions or concerns.

Until later,
Diana Hadley, Executive Director
