After the 2012 Super Bowl sports contest provided such a good experience for IHSPA student journalists, Mark Haab, Warren Central publications adviser, started to explore additional opportunities for students in 2013. And once again the sponsors of athletic teams and events have provided some special experiences for high school sports writers and photographers.
Curt Cavin, Indianapolis Star reporter, has arranged for student journalists who win this year’s sports contest to participate with professional journalists at the Indianapolis 500 media day in May.
Last week the chance to attend a Pacers practice gave other students who had entered the sports contest the opportunity to photograph a Pacer practice and conduct one-on-one interviews with the players at the end of the practice.
The photos reflect the success of the Pacer experience. Other photos will be added to the website as students attend additional events.
