Tom Gayda, adviser of multiple publications at North Central High School, is one of just six advisers to receive the National Scholastic Press Association’s Pioneer Award for 2014.
The Pioneer Award is presented to journalism educators who make substantial contributions to high school publications and journalism programs outside of their primary employment.
Tom has served on the IHSPA board through president as well as being a convention planner and Ella Sengenberger recipient. The 15-year veteran teacher recently published “Scholastic Journalism Leadership,” a book that helps advisers and students learn about the best strategies for leadership.
